JULY/AUGUST 2011

SUDBURY AGLOW ARE OUT AND ABOUT ON THE HIGH STREET THIS SUMMER!

The Aglow team with friends and helpers in support spent a happy few hours in the Market Square, Sudbury on Saturday 23rd July. We were able to rent two tables for a nominal sum and we held a table top sale in aid of raising funds for the Aglow Romanian Outreach. We were also able to raise awareness of the work of Aglow International in the UK. We were amazed to see that selling good bric-a-brac enabled us to raise £115.86 for the Aglow Romanian outreach.

It is always interesting to be outdoors and chatting with the public in general. There are so many different people with a vast range of opinions who are trying to live in our complicated and aggressive world. We chose to wear our pink T-shirts which prompted people coming to our stall to say, "Well, who are you and what do you do". What an opportunity for us. Some of us are known in the town but it is good to tell others what we do in Sudbury and encourage women to join us at our monthly outreach or for a coffee at No. 72 North Street. We pray this morning will bear some fruit.

On Tuesday 9th August we held a Tea and Chat afternoon at No. 72 North Street which was absolutely delightful. Gorgeous cakes and scones and cream and jam arrived and we had some good, informal fellowship together. It was great to have our oldest Member, Hazel Ivy make that extra effort to join us and tell us all about her granddaughter, Jasmine, who has become anorexic in an attempt to make herself the perfect shape. We are all praying for Hazel as she spends a few weeks with her family when she will be seeing Jasmine. We know Hazel will speak to her with a heart of love and wisdom. The conversation revolved around the miracles of God in our lives and the difference prayer makes to everything and everyone. We also held a mini sale of some items raising a further £40.50 for Romania. Our contribution to the Romanian Outreach is £156.36

ABOUT NO. 72 NORTH STREET

Every other Tuesday between 10am and 12 noon we are to be found at No.72

North Street. We are very blessed to be able to use this venue which is a coffee shop and a Family Network Centre run by a Christian couple. Tuesday is their day off. Here we have opportunities to invite in people who are passing by for a free cup of tea or coffee and, hopefully, a chat. This is not without its difficulties because our shop is only two doors away from a Weatherspoons pub which appears to hold a magnetic attraction which seems impossible for people to resist!

No. 72 outreach began several years ago when Corinne was President of Sudbury. Before we open the doors we pray and ask that God would draw the right people to us. We have some regulars who come; and it is such a joy when we are asked why we do what we do, which gives us the opportunity to speak about Aglow and our faith. Some mornings we go home disappointed if we have not had many people come in, but then another day we are thrilled when the place has been buzzing.

God is good all the time so the song goes! We are encouraged!
